Southern Gothic Story

I recently wrote a short story. It was actually written as a school English assignment; however, I especially enjoyed writing this one. Keep in mind that it is southern gothic meaning that, like any other southern gothic story, it has a twisted plot with an unexpected ending. You can find it in the tab listed as “writing.” Hope you enjoy!

The Ring

Halloween has passed and yet I have discovered one of the most frightening movies ever existed. The Ring is a terrific film based on a plot concerning life and death.

When a woman watches an old home video (terrifying I might add), she gets a mysterious phone call informing her that she has seven more days to live. From there, the plot climaxes as she and a friend try to uncover the mystery behind the video (who created it, what it means, etc.)

After seeing this movie, I would highly recommend it to anyone in the mood for a horror film that would make you jump. It includes quite a few “pop-out” scenes and a great turning point. Most of all, the story is quite interesting and there is a plot to it unlike most horror films. The movie was released in 2002 and was also followed by sequel called The Ring 2 in 2005, which I will be looking forward to seeing next Halloween!

Eclipse Review

Yet again, a new Twilight movie has come out. I must admit that by far, Eclipse is the best movie they have made. Unlike the others, Eclipse had a lot more action and more of a dramatic story line. Another key factor, was the script for the movie. In my opinion, the script had been a little to “cheesy” in the past films.

Many fans showed up at the midnight showing of Eclipse to support the event and their love for the books. As a twilighter, I also attended and found it well-worth the wait in line. The songs for the soundtrack were well-chosen and consisted of the new single from the British band Muse called “Neutron Star Collision(Our Love is Forever.” In fact, this was the first single Muse had ever released for one of the Twilight Saga films.

In the future? I’ve heard rumors that Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be split into two different parts. Most fans are thrilled about this, meaning more movies to come. However, some others are finding it suspicious after the released news that Harry Potter had also been split into two for their last film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” In my opinion, I think that Breaking Dawn should be split into two films, taking in the fact that the book is very large, as is the content of the story. The main concern for the fans is where Part 1 will end.

Cleopatra - the Ballet

Playing this weekend, Cleopatra comes to the Koger Center here in Columbia. Combined with culture and terrific choreography, this ballet was well worth the ticket price to see. Before the show, it is a good idea to listen to the actual story so you get a sense of what is going on and get the feel of the culture.

There were many surprising features in the ballet. One being a rare domestic cat and the other, a real live camel that weighed a ton… literally!

The ballets that The Columbia City Ballet put together usually rotate every eight years. However, the demand was so great to see Cleopatra that they brought it back only two years later. Tickets are on sale now and end by Sunday of this weekend so get them while you can. Shows will starts at 7:30 each night this weekend.

Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes was an amazing, action packed movie. Although, I wouldn’t recommend watching it twice, it had a great mystery. The only reason I would say not to see it twice is just because I believe it’s hard to enjoy it as much if you already know who the criminal is in the end.

The greatest scenes in the movie were the action scenes, particularly the bomb scenes. It was all very spontaneous and most of the action, you wouldn’t predict. The humor within the movie was worked in very well and also combined into the action at the same time, but you have to listen carefully in order to hear it/ get it.

Overall, the actors were tremendous, especially Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes. I’ve heard from a few people that the film isn’t much like the book; however, they still enjoyed it just as much. In my opinion, it’s a movie that is well worth seeing.
